I’m trying to get more women into beer drinking. Not just college girls, but all women. Why? Well, the better question is, why not? Alcohol, in general,  is good for you in responsible quantities. It can help keep your blood pressure down and one to two beers a day  (well 3-4 for me since I’m a seasoned yet responsible alcoholic) can protect you from HEART DISEASE. No, you didn’t die and go to heaven. It’s totally true. Plus, you become more relaxed and able to overcome social-related fears, like wearing the ovaries on the outside and telling that cute guy how cute you think he is. So if there’s any women out there reading this, soak this all in. The easiest way to transition from wine coolers and Smirnoff Ice to hearty beer is to take steps.

Step one: Try a specialty beer

A specialty beer is a beer that is flavored with different extracts. Some beers are flavored with fruit, chocolate, candy or what ever else comes to mind. There’s even a beer that tastes like pizza (mammamiapizzabeer.com. I can’t make this up.) But I know that a lot of women enjoy something that may have a sweet taste to it so I would try Sea Dog, a blueberry flavored beer.

<—— This beer is good, but you may notice a sour aftertaste. It’s only because the blueberry extract is on the acidic side. But don’t fret. You will soon realize that most, if not all beers have an aftertaste. If you don’t like blueberry, they even have an apricot flavor. Go to your local liquor store to find a flavored beer (popular flavors are blueberry, raspberry and honey) and try whatever seems the most adventurous. Most liquor stores let you purchase a single beer so take advantage of that. There’s nothing wrong with sampling.

Step 2: Drink it SUPER cold

Drinking it when it’s really cold (not frozen) will help bypass that “beer” taste. Even the worst tasting beers have 5 minutes of being fantastic when it’s fresh out of the freezer.

Step 3: Pair it with food

When you drink beer with food, especially something savory, it can enhance the flavor of the food, or the food can enhance the taste of the beer. Fast food is a good choice. Italian food always taste good with beer and Mexican food tastes even better with it. Pizza (and chinese food, at least for me and my homies) is the staple of beer pairing because, for one, it’s super portable (you can hold a slice with one and a beer in the other).

Dos Equis is a mexican beer (cerveza) that has two delicious types; The Lager and The Ambar (a cool way of spelling amber). I would recommend trying both but my favorite is The Lager because it’s light and refreshing, unlike a traditional lager. The Ambar is a smooth, somewhat complex amber that tastes better (at least in my opinion) with food, preferably foods with a little spice. With it having 4.8% alcohol, you can enjoy it while getting a nice, steady buzz. Besides, how can you NOT love a beer that is represented by The Most Interesting Man in the World? I even posted a compilation video of his commercials…

Whether you’re new to Orlando, born here, or stuck here for what ever reason, I know some places one can check out, especially if you’re on a budget.

If you want to hang out in a place where everybody knows your name (I’ve always wanted to say that in context), then I would recommend Crickets. The best part about this place that its located in a great location. Cici’s Pizza is in the same plaza so one can eat pizza til they want to puke then take a jog down to Crickets and drink until you really want to puke then you can go to Walgreens across the street and get some  some Advil for the inevitable headache you will have in the morning and some charcoal pills and ginger ale for that tummy ache. Damn, am I really an alcoholic? Oh well…

Hangovers aren’t fun. But what is fun is on Saturdays, you pay $10 at the door and you get an awesome wristband that gives you the freedom to drink all night! Yes you don’t have to read the previous sentence over again. Drink all night on $10! Which means if you just finished paying your rent and your light bill, bought your case of chicken flavored ramen noodles and have Alexander Hamilton in your pocket (if you have to Google Alexander Hamilton, -5 points) head out to Crickets. I would recommend to get there early because it can get packed. So bring your friends, your grandma or your cousin from out of town and have a good time. You can watch the game, drink a beer and/or ogle that girl sitting by the dart board with the quasi unibrow.

I’m kidding about the quasi unibrow (that girl was me). There’s some attractive humans that frequent that bar. Become a regular if you want. Make some friends, play some pool and you might even see me in there being the fun loving but can’t really hear how loud I’m talking girl sitting nearest to the bar. If you like it, let me know. I personally give Crickets a 31/2 out of 5 Mugs.

My buddies and I are always wondering why these celbrities who have money and certainly no shortage of “friends” ever feel the need to drive drunk. They have more than enough resources to not do that. Not that having resources is an excuse, no one should ever drive drunk.
